Texas' Hamilton, Thompson, Joseph Entering Draft

Apr 22, 2011 8:16 PM

Tristan Thompson, Jordan Hamilton and Cory Joseph have all declared for the 2011 NBA draft.

Hamilton plans to hire an agent and forego his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility, but Thompson and Joseph will not, which means they may retain their eligibility if they withdraw their names by May 8.

With this departure (and if Thompson and Joseph do indeed leave), Rick Barnes loses his entire starting lineup, which consisted of Hamilton, Thompson, Joseph and graduating seniors Dogus Balbay and Gary Johnson.

Burks Declares For Draft

Apr 21, 2011 6:06 PM

Colorado guard Alec Burks will give up his final two years of eligibility to declare for the NBA draft.
Burks, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, said today he will leave the school to turn pro.

"I was really excited about coming back (to CU) until yesterday," Burks said. "I wasn't ready to give up the college experience. But I talked to a lot of people.

"I thought about (the possibility of an NBA owners) lockout," Burks said. "But it's a risk-reward. The NBA has been a dream of mine."

Burks led the Big 12 in scoring at 20.5 points per game.

Burks Will Declare For Draft If Projected As Top-15 Pick

Apr 17, 2011 9:03 PM

Colorado sophomore guard Alec Burks said he plans to make a decision on whether to enter the draft by Wednesday or Thursday.

"It's a big decision," Burks said. "I love college. I love being out there with the guys. You only get one chance at college. But the NBA would be fulfilling a dream. It would be a great feeling to play against the best every night."

Burks said if he gets an indication he likely will be selected among the top 15 picks, he is gone.

"If they say I'm probably going 18th or toward the end of the first round, I can stay in school and become a top-10 (for the 2012 draft)," Burks said. "If it's 15th, I'll put my name in the draft so I can work (in tryouts with NBA teams) to get my name higher than that. It's a tough decision. But 15 is the highest I'd decide to go."

Selby's Departure Could Help Kansas Land Highly Touted SG Tevor Lacey

Apr 17, 2011 9:01 PM

Josh Selby’s decision to enter the 2011 NBA Draft may have helped the Jayhawks in the Trevor Lacey recruiting sweepstakes.

Lacey, a high-scoring, deadly shooting 6-foot-3, 200-pound combo guard from Huntsville (Ala.) Butler High, has a final list of KU, Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, UConn and North Carolina State, which is now led by former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried.

“The (KU) roster now has a gaping void at the shooting guard position and Lacey would fill that need nicely,” Rivals.com recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer wrote. “He has a superb basketball IQ, is physically ready and is an outstanding long-distance shooting threat off the catch.

“There is no doubt that instant playing time is a major factor in Lacey's decision, but Kansas faces heavy competition for Lacey. Alabama — Lacey’s ‘backyard’ school — is in need of shooters and has available playing time. Kentucky has developed a strong relationship with Lacey, and if Brandon Knight leaves school, Lacey could very well end up in Lexington,” Meyer added.

The No. 34-rated Lacey averaged 31.4 points a game last season.

Josh Selby Draws Comparison To Monta Ellis

Apr 15, 2011 10:30 AM

Joe Abunassar, owner and lead trainer for Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, sees a little bit of Monta Ellis in Josh Selby. Selby is working out at Abunasser's training facility in preparation for the draft.

“Probably the closest comparison I can make is Monta Ellis,” Abunassar told Andy Samuelson, who interviewed him Wednesday for the Journal-World. “I trained him for the draft. Josh has a combination of skills, explosiveness and strength that you just don’t find very often. The way he controls his body is much like Monta did, where he moves in a very unusual way.”

Abunassar considers Selby a combo guard.

“Great change of speeds off ball screens,” Abunassar said. “He can handle the ball. His knowledge of the game is excellent. He sees the floor very, very well.”
